It’s only a few weeks since love won, but Fox is already working on a film about the Supreme Court’s legalisation of same-sex marriage across the US.

The studio has acquired the rights to tell the stories of Jim Obergefell and his attorney Al Gerhardstein, who won a long-running legal battle for marriage equality last month.

According to The New York Times, Fox’s movie will also be based around Obergefell and Debbie Cenziper’s upcoming book 21 Years to Midnight: The Promise that Brought Marriage Equality to America.
Obergefell began his legal battle following the death of his late husband John Arthur, who he married out of his home state in 2013. Following his bereavement, the state of Ohio refused to list him as Arthur’s widower.

Announcing the introduction of same-sex marriage in all US states, Justice Anthony Kennedy wrote that marriage is a “profound” constitutional right for all.

The Fault in Our Stars producers Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen will produce the film.
