Organisers of the Black History Month celebrations in Peterborough are calling for exhibitors who would like to showcase their work to get in touch.
This year there will be two big events in Peterborough. The first on Cathedral Square on Saturday, October 3 and the second at the Millennium Centre on Saturday, October 10.
The theme for 2015 is centred around demonstrating cultural diversity through art, poetry, dance, music and food.
Bernadetta Omondi, chairperson of the Peterborough Community Group Forum that organises the events, said: “We would like to celebrate Black History Month in Peterborough and want to attract and bring together different communities to promote the theme of cultural diversity.
“Let us promote equality and community cohesion within our community in order that people live in peace and harmony, regardless of their difference.
“There are limited spaces to showcase your services at these two venues, so please get in touch as soon as possible.”
The aim of Black History Month is to recognise significant contributions to society made by people with black heritage.
Black History Month has been celebrated in the UK for 30 years.
Annette Joyce, service director for city services and communications at Peterborough City Council, said: “Black History Month is offering these great opportunities in Peterborough to showcase the rich culture of the black community. This is an internationally recognised month and it’s important for us to promote equality and diversity in Peterborough.
“Peterborough has a pedigree for putting on events which celebrate different cultures and communities, for example this summer’s Portuguese and Italian festivals, and this will be another example of groups working together to put on an event for all to learn from and enjoy.”
Organisers are also looking for sponsorship from individuals and businesses in Peterborough to continue promoting the black heritage, black achievements, in particular to celebrate diversity to promote equality in our community and work places.
If you are interested in booking a stand at either event, or sponsoring the work to mark Black History Month in Peterborough, please email firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com, or call 07595364745.
