A CELEBRATION of different races, faiths, genders, abilities and sexualities takes place in Barnstaple this Saturday. The all-embracing, all-inclusive event, hosted and organised by North Devon Sunrise, includes an array of music, world foods, storytelling and yoga.
“This year it’s getting even bigger and will be celebrating more of the diversity strands,” said Emily Abbott from North Devon Sunrise. “It is a chance for people of different races, faiths, genders, abilities and sexualities to come along, enjoy music, dance and food from around the world and celebrate acceptance and respect for the diverse population of North Devon.”
Seven stages will be dotted about Barnstaple’s Castle Green on Saturday, hosting a kaleidoscope of colourful entertainment.
The Rainbow Stage will showcase music throughout the day. Songs from acts including The Wanderers, RSVP Bhangra and the Masters Of Mischief will tickle ear drums, while an International Fashion Show will showcase clothing from all over the world.
Car maker Renault has driven to the top of the UK savings market, with their best buy Freedom Savings account, paying a 1.65% rate.
The Earth Stage will host yoga and self-defence workshops, while the Fire Stage will feature demonstrations and safety advice workshops from Devon And Somerset Fire And Rescue Service.
Poetry readings and dance troupes will perform on the Air And All Nations stages. Bulgarian folk dance group Boiko Andonov, Swedish/American folk artist Rosa Rebecka, and the SOL choir from Serbia will entertain, along with a Bollywood inspired dance school.
The Water Stage will showcase further dance moves, including demonstrations of Irish dance and a performance by Indonesian dance group Mekar Malati Putih.
Finally, the Spirit Stage will provide entertainment in the forms of sci-fi and fantasy movie re-enactments (Galactic Knights), percussion (Samba Baio) and circus performances (Rob Pudner).
And if you thought that was all, you’d be mistaken – there will also be face painting, a bouncy castle and refreshment stalls.
“It is going to be a great day with musical highlights from RSVP Bhangra, Bulgarian Folk Dance Boiko Andonov and Bristol based fusion band Lionstar,” added Emily. “There will be an LGBT Pride March from the Square to the festival site on Castle Green at 10am that everyone is welcome to join.”
