In a statement on Facebook, the team said, “The Organising Committee are pleased to announce the date for Swansea Bay Pride has been agreed as Saturday April 30th 2016 – the first UK Pride event of the season and May Day Bank Holiday weekend!”
Swansea Pride was cancelled for 2015 following a financial loss in 2014 coupled with “on-going difficulty” recruiting new volunteers to assist the small team behind the event with management and fundraising activities.
“We are very sorry that we’ve had to cancel but without the finances and volunteers in place nothing can happen,” Swansea Pride chair Pete Martin said in April.
“We’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who’s supported Swansea Pride over the years, particularly the local entertainers, performers and the volunteers who have donated time, energy and enthusiasm to the event.”
The one-day Singleton Park festival has been a staple of the summer calendar for the last six years, attracting more than 1,500 people from Swansea and south west Wales in 2013 alone. Last year, chart-topping dance music group Cascada headlined the July event.
