Clifford Chance launches LGBT art exhibition in London and New York

LGBT ArtLondon-based law firm Clifford Chance has opened the doors on its seventh annual LGBT art exhibition, in a transatlantic celebration of gay pride.

A series of eight showcases from LGBT artists have been organised by Arcus, the firm’s LGBT and allies employee network.

The works have been created across multiple media to show the intersection of pop culture and contemporary identity, reflecting on the challenges of the LGBT community in relation to the modern world.

Michael Petry, who is curating the London exhibitions, commented: “What I hope the visitors will take away from all the work is its dynamism and sense of optimism. With the passage of full marriage equality into law in the UK and bearded Conchita Wurst winning Eurovision in a glam dress, LGBT communities have a lot to be happy about!”

Clifford Chance senior partner Malcolm Sweeting said: “I am delighted that we are once again celebrating Pride through art. Diversity is at the very heart of our ability to serve our clients well, and respect for diversity is vital to creating a workplace in which everyone can be themselves and be the best that they can be.”

David Bickerton, managing partner at Clifford Chance London, spoke at the launch event last week about the increasing number of openly LGBT entrants to the firm’s graduate scheme.

Speaking to PinkNews.co.uk after the launch, he said: “At Clifford Chance, we strive to be a place where people feel they can bring their true selves to work. The last 12 months have seen huge progress in the fight for equality for the LGBT community but there is more to be done and we are committed to doing our part.”

Last year, Mr Bickerton told PinkNews.co.uk that such an event could not have been held when he first joined the firm, and praised the advances which have been made within the profession.

Guests at the London launch event included Helen Grant MP, the Minister for Sports and Equalities.

Seven exhibitions are being hosted in London. An eighth, on the theme of LGBT social justice, is being held in New York, and was opened in a similar launch event on the same evening.

Clifford Chance was a proud supporter of the PinkNews Awards 2013.
