Merlin’s Lead for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion has been named the UK’s Diversity Champion for Housing at a prestigious awards ceremony.
Cam Kinsella won the award at the Excellence in Diversity Awards ceremony in Manchester on Thursday night. Presenting her with the award, Mike Magrane from award sponsors Q Hotels said: “Removing inequalities is Cam’s greatest passion and this is evident through her extraordinary achievements over the past eight years across the industry.”
Cam said: “I was really shocked when they read my name out. The people I was up against are really inspiring and I felt privileged just to be nominated alongside them. To actually win it was amazing and I want to use it as a platform to promote that managing diversity it makes good business sense and I can prove that with the model I use.”
Head of Business Assurance Andrew Ledger said: “We’re delighted and very proud of Cam for winning this award. Cam has already made an impact on the way we work since joining us and her dedication and thoroughly deserves this recognition for her dedication to equality and diversity.”
Since joining Merlin last year Cam has helped increase awareness of ill mental health among customers by organising a surprise short play in Merlin’s offices and commissioning a film of customers talking about their mental health issues. She has also seen Merlin become the first housing association in the south west to sign up to the Stamp out Stigma campaign.
Previously she was responsible for making Golden Gates Housing Trust a leader for supporting equality in the housing sector and becoming the first winner of the Diversity Network Accreditation. She was also a key partner in the Keep Warm Keep Well campaign which targeted older customers with winter warm bags.
