The dyslexic Virgin boss wrote a letter to Honor Smith after she watched a video he posted about dyslexia – and he’s not the only businessman to overcome it.

Richard Branson has written to a nine-year-old girl offering advice and encouragement about being dyslexic.

Branson, who dropped out of school at 16 largely due to his dyslexia, went on to found Virgin and has written positively about his experience.

He said on his website: “I see my condition as a gift, not a disability. It has helped me learn the art of delegation, focus my skills, and work with incredible people.”

He has talked in the past about how teachers at school thought he was lazy, saying: “On one of my last days at school, the headmaster told me that I would either end up in prison or become a millionaire.”

Steve Jobs, Jamie Oliver, Theo Paphitis and Lord Sugar are all dyslexic, but have used it to their advantage in creating hugely successful businesses.

The founder of Ikea, Ingvar Kamprad, is also dyslexic, and named each piece of furniture after names and places as they were easier for him to remember than codes.

Other successful dyslexic businessmen include Ted Turner, founder of CNN, Henry Ford, of Ford Motor Company, Bill Hewlett, the co-founder of technology company Hewlett-Packard, and Gary Cohn, president and chief operating officer of Goldman Sachs.
