The Drum is launching a series to shine a spotlight on how the advertising and digital industries can address their diversity problem, which will take up the push for equality its Girl Guides features started three years ago.
Upcoming Diversity features will profile outstanding role models – women and men – from a wide range of backgrounds and all walks of life, offering practical tips for everyone concerned about the industry’s diversity problem. Like Girl Guides, the series gives the issue a platform for readers to discuss its various trends and influences openly, while also providing case studies that aim to shift the narrative by focusing on what is being done to foster more diversity rather than what isn’t.
“When we launched The Drum’s Girl Guides series, we wanted to shine the spotlight on high-profile women blazing a trail in the digital and media industries – women leading the way in their professions, despite, in many cases, facing major hurdles. We wanted to highlight their success stories to inspire a new generation of young women,” said Katie McQuater, The Drum’s features editor.
“Now we want to continue that push for equality – for everyone. The Drum’s Diversity series will celebrate outstanding role models from all walks of life and those campaigning tirelessly for change, with the aim of promoting lively discussion on how the industry can become a more diverse, dynamic place.”
The start of The Drum’s Diversity chapter comes at the end of the Girl Guides one. Launched three years ago, the features crystallised the thoughts of visionary women from the creative industries, including the Guardian’s Anna Watkins, Marie Claire’s Justine Southall and O2’s Nina Bibby.
